
Dr. Ülkü Sezgi Sözen is a legal scholar and researcher at the Faculty of Law at the University of Hamburg, where she also serves as Head of the Joint Study Programme in Law (Hamburg/Istanbul) and Coordinator of the Albrecht Mendelssohn Bartholdy Graduate School of Law. Her research lies at the intersection of European and international law, with a particular focus on migration law, EU external migration policy, and the protection of fundamental rights. Her recent work further explores the implications of digitalisation in migration governance. Dr. Sözen obtained her LL.M. from Europa-Kolleg Hamburg and completed her doctoral studies at the University of Hamburg, where her research examined EU association law and its interaction with migration policies, particularly in relation to Mediterranean partner states. Alongside her research, she is actively engaged in teaching and the development of international and interdisciplinary legal education programmes. She is also an executive board member of The Migration Conference. She also serves on the editorial board of the independent publishing house, Transnational Press London.
